About Honey Bees
There are three kinds of honey bees
Worker bees
Are all female
Do all the work
Can only sting once - may live for a short time after stinging
Queen bees
One queen bee per hive
Lays eggs
A queen will only sting once, but does not die if she stings you since she does not have any barbs at the end of her stinger.
Typically queens are not seen by people since she lives in the middle of the hive and is well protected by worker bees.
Secretes a pheromone that attracts bees
Drone bees
Do not work or sting
Are the only male bees
