There are three kinds of honey bees
Worker bees
Are all female
- Do all the work
- Can only sting once - may live for a short time after stinging
- Queen bees
- One queen bee per hive
- Lays eggs
- A queen will only sting once, but does not die if she stings you since she does not have any barbs at the end of her stinger.
- Typically queens are not seen by people since she lives in the middle of the hive and is well protected by worker bees.
- Secretes a pheromone that attracts bees
- Drone bees
- Do not work or sting
- Are the only male bees
