Answers

  1. On what devices will a web site created by ReadyGo Mobile display?span>
  2. Answer
Any device that has a modern web browser will properly display a web site created with ReadyGo Mobile. This includes cell phones, smartphones, PDAs, tablet computers, PCs and Macs. Devices/platforms that ReadyGo has tested include Blackberry, Google Chrome, iPhone (Safari browser), Palm, Minimo browser (on Windows Mobile), Symbian/Nokia (Opera browser), Windows Mobile with Internet Explorer, and Windows CE with Internet Explorer.

  3. I already have a web site. Will I need to recreate my web site in ReadyGo Mobile if I want mobile device to access my content?
  4. Answer
If your current web site does not work with mobile devices you will need to rebuild your site. You may be able to copy/paste your existing web site into ReadyGo Mobile.

  5. I have Adobe Flash and other multimedia on my web site. Can I bring this into ReadyGo Mobile?
  6. Answer
Yes, you can bring any web readable elements into ReadyGo Mobile and these elements will display in a PC browser. However, this is not true of most mobile devices. Most plug-ins and multimedia are not supported as parts of web pages in mobile devices. That is, you might be able to view a video on your iPhone, but you probably won't be able to view a video that is part of a website.

  7. I have built my current site in Dreamweaver. Can I use Dreamweaver with ReadyGo Mobile?
  8. Answer
Yes and No - Yes, ReadyGo Mobile has a utility that brings Dreamweaver pages along with all associated graphics into a ReadyGo Mobile site. However, because of poor mobile browser support, Dreamweaver pages do not always work on mobile devices.

  9. Does ReadyGo Mobile have a way for me to see what a site will look like on a mobile device?
  10. Answer
Yes, ReadyGo Mobile has a Mobile Preview mode where you can see how the content will look in seven different mobile environments. Be aware - you are viewing this on a browser on your PC. Your browser will support multimedia and plug-ins that a mobile browser does not support. Other than having more support for multimedia than your end-users will have, this preview mode will give you a good idea of how the content will appear in a mobile device.

  11. Can I use ReadyGo Mobile to create a web site that can be viewed by a PC-based browser?
  12. Answer
Yes, ReadyGo Mobile can be used to create a web site that can be viewed by a PC-based browser. You can choose from one of the PC-browser templates provided with the tool or create a template of your choice.

  13. What if I want to create content that can be simultaneously viewed by a PC-based browser and a smartphone?
  14. Answer
There are a few differences between standard PC browser content and content that can be viewed by a smartphone. One difference is the amount of available display area on a page. You will want less content on your page for mobile display than for PC-browser display since the screen sizes on mobile devices are smaller than desktop monitors. The skin/template/look-and-feel of a web site intended for a mobile device should be graphically simpler than one for a PC-browser. Many of the mobile browsers have very poor style sheet support. In these cases global navigation elements will end up displaying at the bottom of the page (by design) so that they allow more display area for the content of interest. The two main approaches to solving the problem of simultaneous viewing are:
    1. Create 2 versions of the course (one with a desktop template and one with a mobile layout). Point the users to the desired template. 2. At run time, you can instruct the browser to load a different style sheet (contact ReadyGo support for instructions). Then, the same content will be displayed differently based on what style sheet is used.

  15. Do you have recommendations for how to best prepare my content for delivery on a mobile device?
  16. Answer
Experiencing what a mobile user will see is the best way to get an idea of what will work. We recommend that you pour some content into ReadyGo Mobile, and then view it through the mobile preview option.See tips on what content works best for mobile devices...

  17. Can I turn my Powerpoint presentation into a website for a mobile device?
  18. Answer
ReadyGo Mobile has a copy/paste from PowerPoint that turns titles and bullets into ReadyGo titles and bullets. This copy/paste removes the formatting used by PPT so that the content can adapt to the end-users display environment.
