Column 5 is labeled Packing Group and specifies one or more
packing groups assigned to a material corresponding to the
proper shipping name and hazard class for that hazardous
material. The HMT specifies one or more packing groups
assigned to most hazardous materials. If a material is assigned
to more than one packing group, the shipper must determine
the correct packing group for that hazardous material. The
packing group of the hazardous material will have an effect on
a material’s packaging requirements.
