1.2 Sound on the Web
The basic principles behind the .WAV sound file optimization process are:

  1. Removal of parts of the sound file that carry no sound and are therefore just "dead air" . This can reduce the file size by up to 30%.

  1. Encoding your .WAV files with one of the existing compression algorithms, reducing your file size by a factor of anywhere from 2X to 10X.

  1. Using only the minimum sound quality necessary. For example: using "Mono" sound setting instead of "Stereo" can further reduce .WAV file size by half.
