6.5 Tips for Writing Effective Bullet Pages |
Bullet pages are the frame of a course. They should clearly provide the student with basic information on each subject.
- Summary: Pages should be framed with a one to five sentence paragraph summarizing, defining, or explaining the subject of the page. This area introduces the reader to more detail and motivates the student to seek further information. It provides the "glue" that holds the bullet items in the page together.
- Bullet points:You should have two to five bullets per page. Pages start to become overwhelming if they have more than six bullets.
- If you need more than six bullets, consider breaking the content into two pages.
- Individual bullet points may consist of short sentences or lists of applicable details. In some cases, sub-bulleted lists are effective.
- Studies have shown that information presented using bullet points can lead to a 50% to 120% increase in learner retention
- Highlighted text: Reinforce important points by restating and highlight the information. Interesting facts will make the class enjoyable for the student.
- Interactive elements: Interactive elements are available to reinforce the information found on a bullet page. These include links, articles, quizzes and articles.
