3.1 Five Stages of Adopting New Technologies |
It takes a number of years for most companies to synthesize and adopt to new ways of doing business. There are five stages that most organizations go through on their road to adoption.
- Stage 1: Denial "we don't need this technology"
- "This new way of doing business does not apply to us"
- Stage 2: Outsourcing - “we don’t have time to create and manage this technology”
- "The easiest solution is to outsource."
- Stage 3: PowerPoint “everyone in the company is referencing this technology in their PowerPoint slides”
- "We need to take responsibility for this new way of doing business, we just can't shuffle it off by outsourcing. It is in everyone's plans, we just have not started execution."
- Stage 4: Execution “my people are busy creating applications using this technology”
- We have allocated resources and those resources have responsibility and accountability.
- Stage 5: Integration with current business “ we use this technology in our day-to-day business”
- "This is just a standard procedure for how we do business"
